Ian Fleming built a house on the bluff above the bay in 1946 and wrote all fourteen James Bond books there over the next eighteen winters, taking the name from a bird guide on his shelf by the ornithologist James Bond. The bay itself was a banana port before that and is a fishing town still, which is the part the films never had any use for.
