Los Cabos

Two towns thirty kilometres apart share the name: san José del Cabo, a mission village with an art district, and Cabo San Lucas, a marina town beneath the granite arch where the Sea of Cortés meets the Pacific. Swim at Chileno or Santa María — most of the beaches here have currents that do not forgive — and go out on the water in winter for grey whales.
