Lagos has grown from three hundred thousand people in 1950 to over twenty million and adds roughly two thousand a day, which makes planning a permanent emergency and improvisation a civic skill. Nollywood produces more films by volume than any industry except India's, Afrobeats went from here to the world, and the Makoko settlement is built on stilts over the lagoon.
