Sopot
The Baltic Pier
Portrait
Sopot's pier runs 511 metres into the Baltic, the longest wooden one in Europe, built in stages from 1827 when a Napoleonic army doctor founded the spa. It sits between Gdańsk and Gdynia on a single tram line, which makes it the beach for a metropolitan area of a million people — and the reason Monte Cassino street is loud all summer.
