Zakopane

Stanisław Witkiewicz designed the Zakopane Style in the 1890s from highlander carpentry — steep shingled roofs, carved gables, larch beams — as a deliberately Polish architecture at a time when Poland did not exist on the map. Krupówki sells the smoked oscypek; then take the funicular or the Morskie Oko trail into the Tatras.
