Suzdal

Suzdal was a principality's capital in the twelfth century and then stagnated, and a Soviet decision in 1967 to designate it a tourist town banned industry and multi-storey building — which is why around two hundred churches and monasteries stand among wooden houses and meadows. The kremlin's Nativity Cathedral has thirteenth-century golden doors.
