La Seu was begun in 1229 on the site of a mosque and finished six centuries later, with a rose window of thirteen hundred pieces of glass and a later intervention by Gaudí inside. Palma repays a base instead of a stopover: the Serra de Tramuntana is an hour away by the electric train to Sóller, and the old town's courtyards are open in spring.
