Salamanca

The university, founded in 1218, is among the oldest in the world and taught the law of nations before there were nations; its plateresque façade carries a frog on a skull that students must find for luck before examinations. The villamayor sandstone the whole city is built from oxidises to gold in low sun, which is why Salamanca is called the golden city.
