The Carnival Beach
Portrait
Santiago Rusiñol brought the modernistes here in the 1890s and turned a whitewashed fishing village into a painters' colony; the Carnival, the film festival and a famously open social life followed a century later. Coastal trains run from Barcelona in thirty-five minutes; walk the seafront promenade to the church on its rock, and stay for the evening rather than the beach.
