Brighton
The Regency Seaside
Portrait
The Prince Regent began a Mughal-domed pleasure palace here in 1815 and the railway brought Londoners by the trainload; the town has been the country's designated place to misbehave ever since. The Royal Pavilion is architecture as excess; then the Lanes and the North Laine for the second-hand shops, and swim off the pebbles if the sea allows.
