Gothenburg was laid out by Dutch engineers in 1621 with canals and a moat, which is why it looks unlike the rest of Sweden, and its fish market of 1874 is called the Feskekôrka — the fish church — for its Gothic shape. The archipelago of some twenty islands begins at the tram terminus, and the West Coast shrimp are eaten with bread and mayonnaise and nothing else.
