Blaenavon

Blaenavon is listed by UNESCO not for a building but for a complete industrial landscape — the ironworks of 1789, the coal mine, the quarries, the railways and the workers' housing all in relation to each other. Big Pit takes visitors down a shaft with lamps and a former miner as guide, which is the closest most people come to understanding the work.
