The Long Walk
Imperial CapitalsGarden Cities
Portrait

William the Conqueror built the first fortress here around 1070 as one of a ring guarding London, and the castle has been a royal residence ever since — nine centuries of continuous occupation, which no other castle can claim. The Long Walk runs four kilometres straight from the gates through the Great Park, and St George's Chapel holds ten monarchs.
