Lviv

Lviv was Habsburg Lemberg for 146 years and has been Polish, Soviet and Ukrainian since; the old town came through the war almost intact and holds Renaissance, baroque and secession buildings within one walkable centre. The coffee house tradition arrived with Vienna, and the city is now Ukraine's cultural capital and a refuge for those displaced from the east.
