Bolzano / Bozen

South Tyrol was Austrian until 1919 and remains bilingual by statute — street signs, schools and administration in both languages, with autonomy the region defends carefully. Ötzi, a man who died in the Alps around 3300 BC and was found frozen in 1991, is kept here in a refrigerated cell with a viewing window, still bearing the arrowhead that killed him.
