Bariloche
Chocolate & Lakes
Portrait
Swiss, German and Austrian settlers arrived from the 1890s and built Bariloche in alpine style — stone and timber, a civic centre of 1940 in deliberate Central European manner — beside a glacial lake in Patagonia. The chocolate industry followed the settlers and now runs to dozens of shops on one street, and the Circuito Chico drives a loop of lakes and peaks in an afternoon.
