Mar del Plata

Mar del Plata was built as a resort for the Buenos Aires elite and became, after Perón, the holiday city of the whole country — its population triples in January. The casino of 1939 by Alejandro Bustillo, who also built the Bariloche civic centre, faces the sea behind two stone sea lions that have become the city's emblem.
