Sucre
Bolivia in White
Portrait
Independence was declared here in 1825 and the country named for Bolívar, with Sucre named for his general; the supreme court still sits here though the government moved to La Paz in 1899. An ordinance requires the colonial centre to be whitewashed annually, which is why the city is uniformly white, and the dinosaur trackway at Cal Orck'o holds five thousand footprints on a near-vertical cliff.
