Portrait

Built on ridges between the Yangtze and the Jialing, Chongqing has no bicycles and no grid: a building's ground floor may be another's twentieth, a metro train passes through an apartment block at Liziba, and the fog holds for a hundred days a year. The hotpot here was invented by boatmen; then take the Yangtze cableway across at dusk.
