Louis XIV married the Spanish infanta here in 1660 as the seal on the Treaty of the Pyrenees, and the door of the church was bricked up after them so that nobody would pass through it again. The town is still a working fishing port with the only sheltered swimming bay on this coast — everything else on the Basque shore is surf.
