Ramoji Film City opened in 1996 with permanent sets for airports, temples, prisons and European streets across sixteen hundred acres — a production can arrive with a script and leave with a finished film. Telugu cinema based here now outgrosses Bollywood in some years, and the city itself predates all of it by four centuries around the Charminar of 1591.
