The walled Old City is divided into four quarters around a platform that Jews call the Temple Mount and Muslims the Noble Sanctuary, with the Church of the Holy Sepulchre a few hundred metres west and its keys held for centuries by two Muslim families. Walk the ramparts early for the plan, keep to the visiting hours each site sets, and accept that no route through this city is neutral.
