Portrait

In 1210 Afonso II gave Óbidos to his queen, and the town remained the property of Portuguese queens until 1834 — which is why it was maintained rather than developed. The walls are complete and walkable without railings, the streets inside are whitewashed with blue and yellow trim, and the local drink is ginja, a sour-cherry liqueur served in a chocolate cup.
