Vladimir was the capital of Rus before Moscow, and its Assumption Cathedral of 1160 became the model on which Moscow's Kremlin cathedral was later built; the Golden Gate and the Cathedral of St Demetrius, carved with 1,300 reliefs, survive from the same decades. Rublev's frescoes of the Last Judgement are in the Assumption Cathedral.
