The Glass Cathedral

Portrait

León's cathedral was built in the thirteenth century on French Gothic principles taken to an extreme — the walls were reduced until 1,800 square metres of stained glass carried by slender piers, which nearly collapsed the building in the nineteenth century and required a rebuilding of the vaults. It stands on the Camino de Santiago, and Gaudí built a neo-Gothic palace across the square.
