Andrés de Vandelvira worked in both towns through the sixteenth century, and the Spanish nobility who had grown rich on Reconquista land grants paid for chapels, palaces and squares in a restrained Italian manner — an ensemble that has no equal in Spain outside Salamanca. The olive groves around them run to the horizon in every direction.
