Portrait

The village is one street between a castle and a gate, with no cars and about two thousand residents in the commune, and the cheese has been made in the surrounding chalets since at least 1115 — the dairy at the foot of the hill shows the process. The castle held the counts of Gruyères until they went bankrupt in 1554.
