Hadrian's gate of 130 AD still opens into Kaleiçi, the walled old town of wooden Ottoman houses above a horseshoe harbour, while beyond the city the coast runs for four hundred kilometres of resorts and ancient sites in alternation. Perge, Aspendos and Termessos all lie within an hour of the centre, and the theatre at Aspendos is among the best preserved the Romans left.
