The transcontinental highway ends at the pier here, and the 1909 pier with its 1922 carousel turned the Los Angeles beach into an image rather than just a shore. Cycle the Marvin Braude path south to Venice for the boardwalk, then leave the sand for Montana Avenue, where the actual town lives.
