Houseboats & the Bay
Portrait
Marinship built ninety-three vessels here during the war, and when the yard closed the workers' floating homes stayed — several hundred houseboats still moor at Waldo Point, some of them built from salvaged landing craft. Cycle across the Golden Gate and ferry back: the approach to the city from the water is the point of the whole exercise.
