Banff
Turquoise of the Rockies
Portrait
Three railway workers found a hot spring here in 1883 and claimed it; the government resolved the argument by taking the land and creating Canada's first national park in 1885, which is why Banff is a town inside a park with its population capped by law. The lake colours come from glacial rock flour suspended in the water.
