A Korean prince became a monk here in the eighth century and was identified after death as an incarnation of Ksitigarbha; his body reportedly did not decompose, and since then more than a dozen mummified monks have been preserved and gilded in the temples, several of them displayed. The mountain has ninety-nine peaks and around ninety monasteries.
