Èze
The Eagle's Nest
Portrait
Èze occupies a rock four hundred metres above the Mediterranean, built as a defensive site and reached by a single stepped lane; the castle at the top was demolished by Louis XIV and the site is now an exotic garden of cacti and agaves. Nietzsche walked up the coastal path from the shore and composed part of Zarathustra on it.
