Grasse
The Perfume Fields
Portrait
Grasse tanners perfumed their leather gloves in the sixteenth century to mask the smell, and when gloves went out of fashion the town kept the perfume — jasmine and May rose are still grown in the fields around it for houses that name Grasse on the bottle. A nose trains for years and can distinguish several thousand raw materials.
