Honfleur
The Impressionists' Harbour
Portrait
Boudin was born here and persuaded the young Monet to paint outside rather than in a studio; the Saint-Siméon farm above the town hosted Boudin, Jongkind, Courbet and Monet through the 1860s, and Impressionism came substantially out of those sessions. The Vieux Bassin's tall slate-fronted houses are the subject they kept returning to.
