Pécs has a Roman-era Christian burial complex from the fourth century with painted chambers underground, listed by UNESCO, and above it a mosque converted to a church that kept its mihrab. The Zsolnay factory developed eosin, an iridescent metallic glaze, and its frost-resistant pyrogranite tiles roof landmark buildings across Hungary.
