The Stone Chariot
Lost Cities & RuinsSacred Cities
Gateway town: Puri
Portrait

The Sun Temple was raised around 1250 as a chariot with twenty-four carved wheels and seven horses, and its wheels work as sundials accurate to the minute. The main tower collapsed centuries ago and the sea has retreated three kilometres; what stands is the assembly hall, and the erotic carvings on its plinth are as famous as the astronomy.
