Aveiro
Moliceiros & Salt
Portrait
Aveiro sits on a lagoon where seaweed was harvested with flat-bottomed moliceiro boats, painted with scenes that are traditionally rude, and where salt has been panned since Roman times. The ovos moles — egg yolk and sugar in a wafer shell — were invented by convent nuns who used egg whites to starch their habits and had yolks left over.
