Chapel of Bones
Heritage GemsAncient CitiesSacred Cities
Portrait

Évora has a Roman temple of the first century standing in the middle of town, walls from three periods and a university founded in 1559; the Chapel of Bones was built by Franciscans from the remains of five thousand monks, with an inscription at the door telling visitors that these bones await theirs. The Alentejo around it is cork oak and silence.
