Founded in 1477, Uppsala taught Linnaeus, who devised the system by which every living thing is still named and whose garden and house are kept as he left them. The cathedral is the tallest in Scandinavia and holds his grave; on the last day of April the students put on white caps at precisely three o'clock and the town becomes briefly unrecognisable.
