Savelletri / Fasano
Masserie on the Adriatic
Portrait
Savelletri is a fishing hamlet on a flat rock coast, and behind it the masserie — fortified farmhouses among centuries-old olive groves — have been converted into the most expensive hotels in southern Italy without moving a wall. Egnazia's Roman ruins are on the shore, Alberobello's trulli are twenty minutes inland, and the olive oil is the region's actual economy.
