Turin
Baroque Restraint
Portrait
The House of Savoy laid out Turin on a Roman grid with eighteen kilometres of arcade so the court could cross the city without getting wet, and the restraint is deliberate — this is baroque under discipline. The Egyptian Museum holds the second collection in the world after Cairo, and the Mole Antonelliana, built as a synagogue and never used as one, now houses the national cinema museum.
